Congratulations Maricela Castillo, Freshman Marketing major, for earning first place at the Credit Union National Society (CUNA) Mutual Framework for Opportunity Convergence and the Utilization of Sustainable Solution (FOCUSS) competition, held on March 10, 2017! Dennis Kopf, Associate Professor of Marketing, collaborated with Maricela through the Research Apprentice Program at UWW. What a wonderful opportunity for both Professor Kopf and Maricela to engage in the research process and be recognized for their hard work through competition.
Maricela earned her award for her presentation on “Unbanked and Underbanked Populations in the U.S.” She will present her research at the next national competition hosted by CUNA Mutual in Madison on April 19, competing against national first place winners. Professors Roy and Weber will lead a 3-credit travel study to Belgium and the Netherlands from May 15, 2016, to June 1, 2016. The course will cover the role of the European Union (EU), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and, to a lesser extent, NATO. The course will also include study of contract law, conflict resolution on an international scale, logistics (Netherland’s Flower Auction, De Koninck Brewery), and marketing (Touring Belgium Chocolatier). Belgium is the headquarters of the EU, the IMF, and NATO, affording students the opportunity to see the workings of these financial organizations firsthand.
For more information, see the travel study flyer, view the PowerPoint from the information session, or contact Professor Roy or Professor Weber. Up to $1,500 in scholarships are available through the travel study office through October 15, 2016.
